![]() Look, I know what it feels like to look at yourself in the mirror and think "fuck, how many years did I waste doing jack shit?" I know how shitty it feels when there are kids on your classes and on this sub who talk about their 4.0's and their A's while you're putting in the long hours and getting consistent C's and D's. Calculus is a mindfuck and you deserve props for trying over and over. ![]() That's like squatting the bar and working your way up to 3 plates on each side, and fuck whoever tells you otherwise. You started with the concept of mathematical placeholders and you've worked your way up to thinking about limits and different types of infinity. That's fucking insane compared to the average person. It's easy to look at your failures and fall into the sunk cost trap but think about it this way: you went from basic algebra all the way to calculus. Put in the time and the worst that'll happen is you'll have a rough few years, maybe a few more setbacks, but you'll still come out the other side with a degree. ![]() Then I talked to my brother-in-laws who are both engineers and their dad who used to be the dean of an engineering school, and they helped me realize that everyone has setbacks, and the only thing stopping you from having the carer you want is perseverance and hard work. People were swearing up and down that the class was an easy A, and despite working my ass off I felt like maybe civil engineering wasn't right for me if I couldn't even grasp basic mechanics. Last year I was 26 and barely passed Physics I. It seems obvious to me if i can't even pass regular calculus then i don't belong in this field Meme posts made outside this time will be removed.
